The very word ‘jungle’ makes our heart beat faster, creates an adrenaline rush and provokes our adventure-instinct. It takes us back to those primitive days in forest when man began his journey towards civilization. Hence there is no doubt why jungle tourism has successfully connected with every adventure lover. The eerie atmosphere, thick forest, uneven terrain along with the occasional visits of an array of wild animals, make for a lifetime experience. Moreover jungle tourism promotes green tourism and eco tourism.

India has fascinating locations that cater to this branch of adventure tourism. Most of the locations are scattered in the eastern side of India. West Bengal offers some intriguing forest spots like Sunderban, Jaldapara, Garumara, Chilapata, Buxa ; Orissa too has its fair share of jungle tourism with exciting spots like Bhitarkanika, Satkosia Tours , Ushakothi, Kuldiha, Sonabeda and Badarma. Beside Orissa, Chattisgarh has Archanakmar, which is another hub for jungle-lovers. Now we move towards the wstern part of India where Rajasthan has Ranthambore and Bharatpur as its famous jungle destinations. Towards northern India, Uttarakhand has the most famous forest reserve called Corbett. Apart from these Manas, Nameri, Kaziranga in Assam and Namdhapa in Arunachal Pradesh are other notable destinations for jungle tourism in India. These above mentioned sites have taken the concept of travel tourism to a whole new level, thereby enhancing adventure tourism all over India.

India has its rich forest reserve and huge variety of animals ranging from buffaloes, elephants, deers, wild-boars, to Royal Bengal tigers, Asiatic lions, leopards, Rhinocerous, Red Panda and so on. Apart from the famous Royal Bengal tiger, one can also witness crocodiles, crabs, fishes, and reptiles like cobra and python. Ranthambore too has diverse variety of animals which include tigers, leopards, hyenas, jackals, bears, black bucks, desert cats, Indian Flying foxes, etc. Each jungle destination has its own packages for tourists that ensure an all round jungle experience. These destinations provide resort facilities, safari tours, trained guides- which make them ideal spots for jungle tourism.

Jungle tourism is not only about wildlife and birds but also about the unique terrain, rich forest reserve, water bodies, natural beauty and exciting history. It is a mixed flavour of nature, history and wildlife. The eager anticipation of a ferocious animal, the screeching of rare birds, dangerous reptiles, dark, brooding atmosphere, undulating terrain make jungle tourism as the best form of adventure tourism. Tourists from all sections of society, especially youngsters are very much inclined to this form of travel tourism. With the increase in awareness about the conservation of wildlife resource, these National Parks have become tourist attractions.
